Following on from Cordell’s popular Introduction to Portrait Painting in Oils workshops, this is an exciting workshop designed to help students understand colour mixing and design in portraiture using two limited colour palettes. Students will be able to achieve realistic flesh tones and form through focusing on the key components of value, hue and chroma. Creating a portrait from a photograph, and following a step-by-step process, including setting out your mixing palette, Cordell’s workshop will provide advice and guidance on painting a portrait from a reference photograph.

  • What to bring:

  • An apron/old clothes

  • Your favourite brushes

  • A reference photo of a portrait can be brought along to use as a subject, but this must be A4 size and the portrait well lit with good definition on features
